With the power to absorb energy from others and endowed with a regenerative factor, Omega Red becomes a supervillain after participating in the Russian Weapon X Project. In this operation, his skeleton is coated with a metal alloy called carbonadium and he is also provided with two tentacles made of the same alloy. Assuming the identity of Omega Red, he often clashes with the X-Men and especially with Wolverine, with whom he shares a very similar past due to experiments.
